From Bill Cochran, Rhodes Golf Coach
We had a great tournament at the Jekyll Island Collegiate finishing 5th out of 27 teams. The event was dominated by the top four Division III teams in the country. #1 ranked Huntingdon won the team title, followed by #2 Methodist, #3 Oglethorpe and #4 Illinois Wesleyan. However, Rhodes College was the best of the rest!
The tournament was played in very windy conditions and we opened with a first round score of 309, which placed our team in a tie for 11th. On day two and three we rallied with scores of 300 & 299, which allowed our team to jump all the way up to our 5th place finish.
Freshman Bill Bazzel led our team with scores of 75-76-72 = 223, followed by junior Doug Gordon with scores of 75-75-74 = 224. Bill tied for 18th out of the 150 players competing, and Doug tied for 22nd.
Before the Jekyll Island event, we had the opportunity to play the Dye Course at PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Florida, which will be the venue for this year's NCAA Division III National Championship.
The dates for the National Championship are May 13–16, and it is our TEAM GOAL to be there! We also had a fun day visiting the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Florida.”
